Contact UsReno, NV (August 14, 2025) – Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue’s (TMFR) Green Waste Collection Days offer the best alternative to creating defensible space. Green waste collection allows residents to dispose of their dry and dead vegetation, shrubs, tree branches, and other wildland fuels to encourage the creation of defensible space to protect homes and property from wildfires. This is a free event sponsored by the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District for all Washoe County residents, with support from Nevada Division of Forestry and Waste Management.
“We are pleased to offer green waste collection this fall,” said TMFR Fire Chief Richard Edwards. “When residents take the lead in creating defensible space, they’re not just protecting their property – they’re protecting their families, their neighborhoods, and our entire community from the threat of wildfire.”
This season’s green waste collection will include dumpsters provided by Waste Management at designated locations. Residents will need to unload their green waste and dispose of it in the dumpsters at those locations. TMFR personnel will be on-site at all locations.
