MEDIA ADVISORY: Truckee Meadows Fire to Break Ground on New Fire Station, With Support From Apple

Reno, NV (April 24, 2025) – On Monday, April 28 at 11:00 a.m. Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District will break ground on its newest fire station.  Station 35 will be located off of Interstate 80 (I-80) and Waltham Way. The station is made possible through a significant contribution from Apple.

Fire Station 35 will improve emergency response along the I-80 corridor, east of Vista to Wadsworth, and into future areas of development within the Fire District boundaries.  The station will reduce reliance on Station 37, serving the Hidden Valley community and other local fire agencies such as Sparks Fire and Storey County Fire.  Station 35 will respond to traffic collisions and brush fires along I-80, support Storey County Fire into the developments along USA Parkway, and provide faster mutual aid to the residents of both Fernley and Wadsworth.

The new fire station is possible through a contribution from Apple, which has provided the land along with funding for facility construction. Apple has been part of the community since 2012 through its neighboring data center, which plays an important role in Apple’s business and supports many services for customers in the region. Nearby Sparks, Nevada is also home to a satellite ground station that supports Apple’s Emergency SOS via satellite — a groundbreaking safety feature that helps connect iPhone users to emergency services while off the grid.

The 13,000-square-foot fire station will consist of three apparatus bays and house four to eight firefighters 24 hours a day.  It will be equipped with a Type 1 Fire Engine, a Type 3 Brush Engine, and a water tender. There will also be additional space to house a specialty vehicle and a paramedic ambulance in the future.

The station will offer a significant emergency service improvement, coinciding with the Nevada Department of Transportation’s plan to widen and enhance the I-80 Freeway.
