WILDFIRE TRAINING DRILL TO TAKE PLACE ON MAY 29 – North Carson and South Washoe Valley Can Expect Activity

Reno, NV (May 15, 2025) – On Thursday, May 29, beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at approximately 4 p.m., the Sierra Front Wildfire Cooperators will conduct a live full-scale wildfire response scenario in the south Washoe Valley/north Carson City area.

Numerous fire engines, emergency vehicles, and fire personnel will be in the area conducting training operations. The simulation will impact the areas of South Washoe Valley, Lakeview, and Combs Canyon, and southern Franktown Road.

Residents and motorists can expect to see heavy first responder activity in the vicinity, as well as low-flying aircraft west of I-580 in Washoe Valley and north Carson City.  This is only a training exercise for fire personnel and first responding agencies.

The Sierra Front Cooperators are made up of fire agencies in northwestern Nevada, including nearby agencies in California and the Tahoe Basin.

This drill is not associated with the prior day’s evacuation drill planned in Carson City on May 28.
